The Ultimate Glitch, trick and shortcut FAQ Version 2.0 By cheat-master30 aka GLITCH_boss (Mario Kart64.com forums) First made on 26th February 2006 Welcome to the definitive shortcut and glitch guide on the internet. I made this guide because too many people were questioning how to do glitches and shortcuts on too many forums, and this should stop any annoying questions. Still, If you don't the know the shortcuts for a specific level, and want to know tricks on others, read on! This guide now covers all the following: Glitch shortcuts Glitches Intended shortcuts Intended corner cutters Unintended corner cutters Item dodging tricks Item manipulating tricks Contents 1- Course overviews, glitches, shortcuts and tricks in each course 2- Frequently asked questions 3- Glitch usage and finding tips 4- What cc? 5- Neat things 6- Glitch finding tips 7- Waluigi Pinball glitch 8- Dangerous glitch info 9- Ramp tricks 10- Difficulty 11- Prolonged rocket boosting 12- Lakitu guide 13- Checkpoint lists 14- Legal disclaimer Figure Eight Circuit I am sorry to inform anyone who wants shortcuts or glitches on this level that there aren't any. However, see the snaking or prolonged rocket boosting section for information on how best to approach this course. Yoshi Falls The shortcuts on here are easy to figure out, just doing them can be annoying. The second waterfall though has a great trick you can use to easily cross it without peril, just jump! Hop repeatedly and stay near the top and you can easily navigate this waterfall without no items whatsoever. Cheep Cheep Beach This is anopther level with no glitches as such. However, you can cut across the two large patches of water with a mushroom, or, if you're a pro like me, some SSMTs. After the ramps, cut the next patch of shallow water with a mushroom. You can boost and jump after the first ramp to jump through the support beam of the pier! Luigi's Mansion This is the first level in the game where major and real glitches exist in the level. For the most dangerous glitch, rotate near the stairs so part of your kart goes through it. The game should freeze. In local multiplayer, everyone's game will freeze. So if you're an offline coward who wants to quit, just freeze the game and make everyone quit! There is also a second trick you can do with the grass kerb near the grass. Boost at this kerb, aiming for the garden wall. if you jump with the right timing, you will soar high into the air and scale the wall. You can also fly right through any trees in your way! For a corner cutter or two, cut across the grass outside the rear tunnel. A mushroom is preferable. You can then also go behind the gravestones for a faster time. The Choo Choo Trick Use a Bullet Bill at the same time as the glitch to crash the game, and a constant train sound plays until you turn the game off! Desert Hills For the first trick, you need two mushrooms. You then boost to the left of the pyramid and cut the bend. Do not waste your mushrooms on this 'shortcut'. For the best effect though, boost and jump at the last hill. You cut the last patch of sand and cut three or so seconds off your time. Use this shortcut. At the corner with the pyramid, you can cut the corner nearest to the pokeys with a shroom or star. This was supposed to be a corner cutter, as there is a gate there in a mission! Delfino Square This is the best level in the game for glitches and tricks, other than the glitchy levels in the air (Rainbow Road and Sky Garden). For the first trick: You will approach a stone bridge. Go to the left and mushroom boost or mini-turbo and jump to the dock for a major shortcut. You may use mushrooms on this. For the other, you can see an alleyway after the bridge. Boost down here for another shortcut. If you stay still in it in versus, you are also immune to red shells because they hit a wall and die when they try to attack for some reason. There is also a trick others don't know. You can ride the walls of the stone bridge! To do this, go to the ramp to the left of it and boost. You can land on the left wall if your aim was spot on! You are immune to red shells on the wall. At the drawbridge, if you jump at the top, you can cut some of the grasy area afterwards. Cut the grass by the final corner to save a millionth of a milisecond. Waluigi Pinball The one glitch here is the best in the game! It is called the glitch world: Got to the flippers on the pinball table part. Now, you must hit a pinball and then hit the flipper instantly after. You wil be fired across the pinball table in random directions and one of three weird things could happen: You hit the top of a bumper and bounce off randomly. You just soar 50 feet into the air. You go through an outside wall. There, you keep falling until Lakitu puts you back on the pinbal table part. For a shortcut, do the above trick by try to fall through the launcher! You get put down just behind the finish line! For an alternate route, go to the left or right of the flippers to find a walled off area where you are immune to shells and it is easy to power-slide! You can use the bumpers to gain speed. Shroom Ridge For a corner cutter, cut across the grassy garden with a mushroom to save some time. Do not bother if competing in a Time Trial competition. You can also ride the block the starting banner is attached to. If you go round it enough, red shells cannot affect you! I did this once with nine red shells! There is also a barrier in the later part of the level, before the tunnel. Go behind it to dodge any red shells. DK Pass The home of many glitches! This is a great level for reverse races and glitch finding for amateurs! For the first glitch, go backwards until you get past the snowy hill. You can boost and jump the gap to cut the bend! Really helps when against Donkey Kong in mission mode! You can later jump the red fence further downhill. This also helps in mission mode. There is a walled in area later, near where the snowballs roll down with one tree in it. If you boost and jump from downhill, you jump the fence and end up in the walled off area! Lakitu takes you out though! You can hop the last red fence by hitting the final snowman at the right angle. There is a snowy hill later in the level, after the first snowball. You can cut this with mushrooms and in GP/versus, there is a special item box there. You get only these items from it: Star Mushrooms Mushroom Red shell. Tick Tock Clock Unknown to so many, this level isn't a glitch free zone. And I will say all the glitches there are in the level of Tick Tock Clock.. The first shortcut is really easy to do and quite cool. Got to the area near the pendulum (swinging thing). Then, boost and mjump off the side at the next staight bit of road. You will be placed on the straight piece leading to the cogs by Lakitu. The seconds is harder and requires practise: Go to the last bend. you see the rotating gears ahead by the finish? Jump at them. If you aim right, you will be placed after the spinning gears by Lakitu. You can also ride the spinning gears to get a speed boost near the end of each lap. they switch after each lap generally, so be careful. Mario Circuit For a decent corner cutter, snake or mushroom boost across the sand near the piranha plants to cut that corner and save some time. For a neat glitch, jump off the edge at the first bend (near the castle). If you aim correctly, you will go right through the supposedly 3D castle! Cut the final patch of sand by the finish line to save some valuable time. Airship Fortress Here there are some neat tricks to do in Time Trial and versus. The first is simple. Jump off near the edge at each oppurtunity to be placed ahead a slight bit by Lakitu. To go through a bullet bill, have a mushroom. Now, aim for the back of the missile, and you will shoot right through the rear portion of the sprite! For another trick, hit the top of a Rocky Wrench just before it comes up. You fire high into the air, especially if you use a mushroom. Jump off the edge just after the tower to be placed at the final corner, after the hole by Lakitu. Wario Stadium My only tip is a minor corner cutter. To do this, go to the part with two fire rings. You can jump and boost across the mud patch to the right of them with a power-slide or mushroom. Also, cut to the left or right of the jumps (both sets) to save valuable time. Peach Gardens There may be no shortcuts as far as glitches are concerned, but you can take some corner cutters and alternate routes... For a small corner cutter, cut across the first flowerbed with a mushroom or mini-turbos. You save a dencent amount of time this way. In the flowerbed after that, go immediate right to a small path by the flowerbed. It saves some time. You can cut the final flowerbed by going on the path to immediate right after the Chain chomp Maze. After the first turning to the left, in the yellow flowerbed, park right in front of the pink arrow pointing to the left.if you then look at the birds eye view of the bottom screen, you should find that the sign is far to the right, acorrding to the bottom screen your not parked in front of anything. As soon as you start, turn around and go left.carry on going straight and when you reach the end turn right into the corner holding the gas, while holding the gas hold the brake and turn 'til your car is practicaly in the wall, the the white fence is going through the wall of peach's castle.] Thanks to Tom Norton for above two glitches Bowser Castle The level with too many tricks to name here, this is my favourite time trial level (I got 2:07:***) on the course. Here are the glitches... At the first set of stairs, after the Thwomp room, you can boost and jump over the wall with a mini-turbo or mushroom. It doesn't help, but is great to watch and quite cool. In the spinning room, go right and against the corner. Go right at the edge of the spinning section there and your kart with start bouncing on it's front! Go back into the spinning room from the shortcut or normal route to fly high into the air and maybe hit the ceiling. If pursued by a red shell, drop off the log. Go under the log and the shell should zoom right past you! This is a neat dodging trick! Finally, there is a gap in the fence near the end of the course. Jump off there after a shroom or power-slide to hit the finish early and save roughly a second. I use, Time Trial pros use it, you should use it. Rainbow Road Ah. The toughest course in the game by far. And the one with like 50 glitches and bugs in it! This guide should help you master the seven shortcuts, and give you some essential tips: Shortcut 1- The banned shortcut used by Japanese Time Trialers.. Go to the second boost of the spiral. Hit it, then go towards the road above. If done right, you will fly up onto the road before the loop! Sadly, the lap don't count. shortcut 2- The glitch Lakitu exploit abused online.. After the loop, go back towards the red pipe. jump off the left of it with a shroom. If done correctly, you should fly off really far and be placed just before the corkscrew! Shortcut 3- My infamous bend jump.. After the drop, boost and jump off the bend towards the other part of it. If aimed right, you'll cut the rest of the bend and be heading towards the corkscrew! Shortcut 4- The loop trick All I can say is that you fall off one part of the loop and land on another part. It's generally down to luck. Shortcut 5- The most despicable shortcut/glitch in the game For this shortcut, go backwards towards the corkscrew. Then, you have to fall off the corkscrew at the right angle to land on the loop. Fall off the loop to make the lap count. it saves about half a second. I've done it like 3 times in ifinity. It's that hard. Shortcut 6- Skip the gap You have to jump off near the part where you do shortcut 2. You then aim somewhere near the gap, and you get put down after if by lakitu. Shortcut 7- The shortcut chain trick! Jump off near the red pipe, and aim at the bend where you do shortcut 3. You get put down near there. Then do shortcut 3. You not only save about 6 seconds, but have linked two hard shortcut in one lap! If you jump on the loop and corkscrew, you go faster. There is a fence near the start with a hole in it. Go round there, and the hole disappears! There is a glitch after the loop. If you jump off at the right part of the loop from the slope behind, Lakitu puts you down before the loop! If you jump off the spiral at around the fourth boost, you fly through the air for two seconds and your characters face vanishes off the map screen! Mario Circuit 1 About from prolonged rocket boost, cut the sand with a mushroom or two to save time. Moo Moo Farm Go between the last bridge supports in the middle to fly slightly further and get a slightly quicker lap. Peach Circuit Here, you can skip the first and three last bends. Use those corner cutters to your advantage as there are no shortcuts. Luigi Circuit GCN Not a shortcut, but you can escape the level! Go backwards from the start, and onto a black ramp. Have a mushroom. Boost and jump, and if done correctly, you will soar through the invisible wall and fall through the grass! Donut Plains 1 One trick here is to cut the mud patches with a mushroom. Cut through the hole in the fence with snaking or a mushroom. With a wide kart, go to the lake. If you jump and boost correctly, you will cross the lake, landing on the island that is the other side! Frappe Snowland For the shortcut they all mention online, go to the second bend. Now, aim towards the other side and power-slide/shroom at the right time to jump the dark snow and cut the corner. You can also cut the first and third bends with mushrooms. After the snowmen, go across the hill to your right with a mushroom (or SSMTs). You cut some considerable time off your lap/3 lap times. Bowser Castle 2 On this course, you can do an awesome thing! Go to the boost ramp near the middle of the course. Aim at the brick wall. If done correctly, you can ride the barrier wall! You are immune to shells, bullet bills, bananas, fake item boxes and most other ground items. You are not immune to blue shells, bloopers or lightning. You can also use a mushroom to hit the first booster jump and fly over the wall, which wastes some time. If you use a Bullet Bill on the barrier wall, it will take you directly to the end of it and jump the gap automatically. This can prevent many bad accidents. Baby Park This course has loads of shortcuts! That was sarcasm. The only tip I can tell you is to get in about three boosts on the straight and one on each corner. Koopa Beach 2 Go to the left of the normal path to find a road that's slightly quicker and easier for snaking. You can also cut the water with the one cheep cheep and cut the grass before the finish line. Choco Mountain I am the one person who can't give you any help here. It's my worse course. I have one glitch for you to try though: On the last three hils, boost and jump at the top of each one. You go mega high and can even go throught the start line banner! Luigi Circuit GBA To tell you every bend that can be cut would list the whole course, so my tip is to just cut every bend in the course. You can also stand on a puddle unharmed! Just drive onto it really slowly and you can just sit there on it! Mushroom Bridge Here, the only trick worth knowing is cutting the third bend by going up the bank. But since it is hard to line up correctly, and may even be a bit slower than the road using snaking techniques, I don't recommend it. Choco Island 2 The best trick here is to prolonged rocket boost through the gap in the wall. This is legal at the Time Trial record site, so why not do it? You can also do this with a shroom, star or boo. Banshee Boardwalk For the only shortcut here, go left in the mansion instead of right and jump the gap. For the glitches, read on... Go to the area with the drop and turn around. Boost at the support beam. You should go right through the support beam! Go off the same area at the fence. You will fall right through the fence and die! If you go the normal route in the house, you can go left and cut part of the crack in the floor to save some time. Sky Garden This course has more shortcuts and glitches than anywhere else in the game. Here's a quick guide to the shortcuts and tricks you should use. Power-slide or mushroom boost over the first ramp, then jump from cloud to cloud after. This saves some time, but isn't recommended for professional players. There is a speed ramp later on. Use it to cut a corner and gain an item. Do not use this unless you are desparate for an item. The ramp next to it can be power-slided or shroomed on to cut the bend. Later on, there is a floating cloud. Drive over the clouds for a faster time. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to jump for this shortcut. Next to the speed ramp and normal ramp, you can see the other side of the track. Boost with a power-slide or shroom to cut a quarter of the track real quick. At the bend before the final green bridge, you can jump onto the bridge with a shroom. I don't recommend this, as it's hard and banned by the records page. At that same bend, boost and jump off towards the small jump before the finish line. You will be placed just before it, skipping the bend. Near the final bridge, boost and jump off the edge near the bridge, and you will be picked up by Lakitu and placed just before the vine bridge in a neat trick. I have no idea how to do this first try, but mess around near the final bridge, going into the zig zag part of the wall repeatedly and eventually, Lakitu will saY you are going the wrong way when you are facing in the right directions, and vice versa! You can even go backwards for a while without him saying to turno around! When you cross the bridge, or get to the bend far opposite, the trick finally wears off. Jump at the air underneath a beanstalk, and you will hit a wall and die. Go around a wooden ramp, and you can be the other side of it! Yoshi Circuit You can jump the water pit using a mini-turbo or mushroom. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Frenquently asked Questions and shortcut maps/ Rainbow Road shortcut http://pub11.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=90701&usernum=924264529 Sky Garden shortcut (the newest one) http://pub11.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=90705&usernum=924264529 The Frappe Snowland shortcut http://pub11.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=90702&usernum=924264529 The Bowser Castle shortcut http://pub11.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=90703&usernum=924264529 And the Tick Tock Clock shortcut http://pub11.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=90704&usernum=924264529 This should help you make these shortcuts successfully. What courses may have some on that haven't been found yet? Bowser Castle, Rainbow Road, Delfino Square, Wario Stadium, Waluigi Pinball, Choco Mountain. Are there any other glitches? Going through bullet Bills and prolonged rocket boosting. Can you do these on other ccs? Maybe the one on Tick Tock Clock and the Frappe Snowland one. The others require a higher speed to complete safely. Are there any others? Well there is a legal one where you can the u-turn at Sky Garden near the two ramps, and one where you jump a tree. I found a new shortcut! This guy teleported in front of me! That's one of the following: Lag Lag and snaker Or lag and the person was using an already found shortcut. I found this corner cutter! Corner cutters are not all shortcuts. They have to require Lakitu or jumping a wall in technicality. I did this glitch and was put back a long way! That's a backcut, not a shortcut. Don't mention it here if it doesn't help you win a race or get a good Time Trial record. Do you just say the shortcuts help because they helped you win? No, look at my records right here: http://beasleyracing.bravejournal.com/profile.php Quote: About the new SG shortcut: I don't think it's faster, I tried it for about 15 minutes and I didn't seem to be faster, though it weren't perfect runs, I think it's about the same for people at a high level, for people at a lower level it's probably faster. Well it helped me get a better lap time. So I consider it a shortcut. Do I have to see all the shortcuts in your photo album? Yes, or on the journal. Someone went through a Chain Chomp/Bullet Bill in Peach Gardens/Airship Fortress! Okay, what you are seeing is not a cheat! They are no hacker! It is simply a small glitch that you can exploit for your personal needs! How to do this glitch: Understand this about obstacles first; they are not 3D. They are just 2D sprites on a 3D course. And only the front of the monster is an obstacle, that back part of it is just an illusion. So, when you want to shock someone and get through a tight gap, go through the back part of the monster and you should pass right through it! P.S. Did you know that obstacles are all 2D? To prove this, stand by one and rotate the kart. The obstacle should turn around with you! I fired a blue shell and the person didn't get hit! There are many possible ways this could happen, so either: They went through an automatic loading point like a cannon, pipe, launcher etc. If you are about to speed through this when you get hit, you will not be affected! This also works with lightning and bloopers. This has no effect on you as a bullet bill if you're using that item. They got hit by something else at the same time. if this happens, the obstacle that hits slightly earlier cancels out the other! They threw a banana at the shell. If the obstacle hits the shell, both with be destroyed! This is avaliable to read on many forums and sites. They dropped a bob-omb. If so and the bomb explodes, the shell will be destroyed. Worst places to be hit (and there is no chance of recovery) On the loop/corkscrew On the rolling log in the Bowser Castle level. Is everything to do with lag? Most is, but some isn't. There are genuine Lakitu shortcut exploits. There are glitches to go through obstacles and there are advanced manueveurs. The only problem is that if someone says something even a slight bit out of the ordinary on any forum or chat room, at least 50 people will blame it on lag because they can't explain it either! Directly ripped from the article on this journal: How to pull it off: Play battle mode Choose the Nintendo DS course. Inflate all three balloons. Now, don't go hitting people like a madman! Don't even attack them! Go to the top screen and the corners nearest the bottom one... Now drive off near the very corner. If you do it wrong, you will slip on something and fall into oblivion. If done right, you will be under art of the top screen! You are practically invisible to your opponents. Now there are two ways to use the glitch: 1- Be on the flat part under part of the top screen. You are generally invisible to most opposition and can stay there for a long time. One flaw, red shells can hit you and others can sometimes hit you if they go close with a trio of spinning shells... Or 2- Be on the edge diagonally under the touch screen! You are immune to 99.9999999% of attacks and cannot attack back. This is a perfect position.. Now, go off for a cup of tea, dinner, day out, to a friend, play another game etc. Do this for a decent time. Chances are, your character will still be alive when you return and not pummelled! Uses: For an easy win, or good way to narrow down number of computer players if you are useless on Battle mode! Against professionals who think they're all good at this mode! And for trying to survive 9 or more minutes in Battle Mode! Tactical Tricks for Multiplayer: Use a fake box on the touch screen above you to hide the balloons poking through the top screen! Hold items to come out and use when all but one enemy are out! Hold a star to use in case of fluke attacks! And finally, get a mate who is out (and now a ghost) to hide in the same spot. Then, tell him/her to lay a real item box in the area for you to replenish your item supply! The developers didn't know the L button area on that arena had a use... There's another Lakitu glitch on Sky Garden, near the last cloud shortcut! Not the one you mentioned! Admit it, the person used the cloud shortcut, the game lagged, it thought he fell and it placed him at the correct spot when it recieved the data. That's not a glitch shortcut! Got any Tips For shine thief? Get loads of shines on the Nintendo DS course and do the glitch. Leave the game for 10 minutes and you've won! Are you a reputable and reliable glitch finder? Yes, see my Super Mario 64 DS glitches and cheats page... Have you got any world records? I haven't said I have, but I've got the record for the most coins on Cool, Cool Mountain and Snowmans land, Super Mario 64 DS. That's because I got 255 coins with the glitch, and that's the maximum number of coins! What's a checkpoint? It is the place in a track where you have to go through for the lap to 'register'. If you dodge one with a trick, glitch, cheat or shortcut, the lap becomes invalid or void. How many are in a said track? Depends on the length. Few are in Baby Park. Tons are probably in Airship Fortress. How do you know where a checkpoint is? It is either at a significant track area, a shortcut route that was intended or about the same place where Lakitu puts you back on the track at. How do Lakitu glitches work? Possibly to do with invisible checkpoints. Why is this kind of system in the game? Probably to cut down on the number of glitches. Tons were in Mario Kart 64 and Super Circuit. Did it work? Not in Mario Kart DS. And there was even a shortcut on Double Dash... How come there are less glitches now? The above and the fact the developers made going even an inch of track out of bounds or falling. Mario Kart Double Dash was like this. You could barely go off road! If you did, with moon jump codes, you fell through the floor/scenery! I did that accidentally. Thought the land off track in course like Mario Circuit GCN was solid.. How does the finish line work? I think it also expands off track for a certain distance. To test this, go through the finish at Luigi's Mansion right near the fence. The lap still counts. There are two possibilities for this. Either it was on wifi and this is an occassional occurence... You were against a hacker who picked Battle or mission mode tracks and did something unusual to freeze the game. Or, you hit part of the wall on Luigi's Mansion. For some reason, there is a bug in the course that causes the game to freeze when you hit it. I found this out the hard way, when I hit that part of the wall while trying to cheat. Someone vaulted a wall in Wario Stadium! It may be possible, as there is a wall I can nearly jump over.. Or it may just be lag. I read you can cheat by jumping over the last part of DK Pass! This doesn't work, and the game thinks you are out of bounds. Is it true that there is a glitch world on Waluigi Pinball? Yes, and someone has already accessed it. You exit the area and drive around an unknown void out of bounds. What is a glitch world? It is an area you are not meant to access in a game, normally found in adventure or platform games. Here are some examples: In Wario Land, do a glitch in the lava level with the mine carts. You will fly over the wall and land way below. Then, after a short time, you will land in a glitches version of the level with new enemies and decorative swinging axes! In Mario Sunshine, if you have the turbo attachment, turbo down the back of the market stalls. You will fall through the floor into a huge blue void! There is an invisible version of the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time. Does that answer your question? Can you cheat in mission mode? I have some shortcuts for one mission, and some cheats. But generally no. In the race against DK in level 4 of the missions, you can boost and jump from one turn after the shortcut to the next. You can use the fence vaulting glitch to cut some time off. You can use the trick where you jump into the lava at the end of Bowser Castle to lower your time. This does not effect your rank. This has been tested by myself and works. To beat the Big Bob-omb easily, get one bomb and throw it. Then, get another and just hold it. Collect another bomb while still holding the one you have. Now throw the new bomb and quickly launch the old one. You can win in around 10 seconds! To beat Chief Chilly easily, wait until he is about to charge and ram at the same time. He won't and can't jump to dodge! Is there a glitch to get rid of losses online? Yes, but I don't know it. It has something to do with moving out of router range... Damn, I'm not supposed to say how to do that trick in any way.. Can you escape the level in Luigi Circuit GCN? Yes, and I can tell you how. You boost and jump towards the side of the level near the start to fly through an invisible wall and exit the level. I did not find this glitch! Can you dodge a blue shell? See the question 'I fired a blue shell and it didn't hit them!' Can you dodge a red shell? If you ride a wall with glitches, hit a banana before it hits, go way off course, jump so high in the area it goes past you, hide behind a decent sized wall or use invincibility, yes. What would be bad luck when playing Mario Kart? This has nothing to do with glitches, but flying off the side in a Lakitu glitch, dodging a blue shell and catching up to it! Do your tricks work? 100% guaranteed. If they fail, keep trying. How advanced are you at knowing about these tricks? I am on Rainbow Road shortcut 5, everyone else is still on 1. I know about 6 shortcuts on Sky garden, other people know two. I know two on Tick Tock Clock, others know none whatsoever. And they still complain about prolonged rocket boosting. What is your record? vs- 135-31 Battle- 12-11 Wifi- 0-0 3 stars Anything else that's interesting? I have a higher win record than loss record for battle, but so does the one person I ever played. And they have only played one person.. Someone dodged a blue shell without an item! They used a thing called the blue shell dodge. It is all around forums at present and is done by mini-turboing just as the shell is about to hit. This was mentioned by a recent contributor. There are various guides for this on various forums. Here is a link to a decent guide: http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=mario_kart_ds&mes sage.id=303183&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 Do you submit times to the site? Not at present, I'm still practising to get the best possible times for myself. Is there any evidence for the various shortcuts? Search the forums here, on Gamefaqs and the Nintendo forums, I'm sure you will find video evidence for two Sky Garden shortcuts and the first two Rainbow Road ones. For evidence and help on the other shortcuts and tricks, try the maps at the top of the FAQ or these two sites (mine): http://beasleyracing.bravejournal.com http://cheat-master30.tripod.com/cheats.htm If you are someone extremely picky, I will one day make a video of the shortcuts in Rainbow Road, Sky Garden and Tick Tock Clock. Yes the tricks are backed up with a ton of evidence! Disclaimer: If you use such tricks on Mario Kart64.com or Cyberscore, I take no responsibility on the consequences of your actions or possible IP bans Do you take requests for shortcut and glitches? Yes, just pm on this forum for info on the glitch you've heard about! I've heard about a glitch you haven't mentioned! Pm me with the details of how to do this and I will personally test it. I will include it in the next update of the topic. Got any new glitches? Well I heard of this and it works on DK Pass: Go backwards through the level. You will see a high hill near a red fence where snowballs roll down. Boost and jump off that hill. You will jump the fence and be put back on the course by lakitu. Got any real evidence? Mainly me, but some called Blaze something holds the Luigi's Mansion glitch record. For who holds the others: Challenge (glitch records) Kart used Time Support beam jump Dry Bomber 27 seconds Reverse DK Pass race Dry Bomber 47 seconds Tick Tock Clock shortcut lap Dry Bomber 36 seconds Sky Garden shortcut lap Dry Bones Standard 25 seconds ----------------------------------------------------------------- Glitch Usage and Finding Tips I have here the list of karts which are easiest and hardest to perform the said glitches in this FAQ with. Tell me if I'm wrong with any of the information. Karts that are near impossible to perform glitches with Royal Tyrant Rambi Rider Dragonfly B Dasher Power Flower Hard karts to do shortcuts with Brute Wario Standard Bowser Standard DK standard Wildlife Medium Mario standard Luigi Standard Rob LGS Banisher Cucumber Streamliner Easy Peach Standard Yoshi Standard Daisy Standard Dry Bones Standard ROB standard Poltergust 4000 Light Dancer Light Tripper Very Easy Dry Bomber Egg1 ROB BLS Hurricane ---------------------------------------------------------------- What cc is the best to use? For Time Trial glitches and shortcuts to improve times, use 150cc. Also use this for uber glitches, hard jumps and hopping really high wall. 100cc is online speed. Practise in this for testing tricks for use online. My personal tip is to find shortcuts in 150cc, then test them in 100cc ready to use against the online world! A list of what works on Time Trial and online: Time Trial All known glitches and tricks work in this mode that do not require any items. Online These shortcuts work: Tick Tock Clock shortcut 1 Tick Tock Clock shortcut 2 Rainbow Road shortcut 2 Rainbow Road shortcut 6 Rainbow Road shortcut 7 Frappe Snowland shortcut Sky Garden legalised shortcut Illegal Sky Garden shortcut Sky Garden shortcut 4 All item glitches work in this mode as well. As long as the item glitch is performable in an online, non-hacked course. 50cc Hardly any shortcuts work here. Those that do are extremely limited. Use intended tricks more, and you should need glitches to win 50cc anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Neat things The crowd cheers when you win a race in Mario circuit and Figure Eigh Circuit. A different engine noise can be heard if you hold A+B, then boost as you let go of B. There are invisible ramps and bumps in Shroom Ridge, Delfino Square and Rainbow Road. There may be a form of wall tricking in the game. I've heard some people say their mini-turbo was extended after hitting a certain part of a wall, and I've had incidents where I've hit a wall or thwomp and ricketed off at boost speed. You can grind walls if you land with the front part of your kart on the wall. To pull a wheelie, press back on the D pad after going off aboost jump. To change how your quickly your kart lands, press either up or down on the D Pad. You can bouce after landing from a jump. In certain cirmcumstances you can do a triple jump in certain levels if you bounce off a ramp and bounce off the ground after and so on. Like what happens on the hills at Choco Mountain. I did this on Cheep Cheep Beach. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Glitch Finding Tips Here are some personal tips to help you find glitches, shortcuts and unintended tricks in the game. Pick the right kart- Use the ROB BLs/Hurricane for long horizontal jumping tricks and the Egg1/Dry Bomber for jumping high, vertical wall. Experiment everywhere. if something looks odd, try something in that spot. You may be surprised! Use ramps and jumps efficently. Use ramps and bumps in the ground to fly across large horizonatal distances and boost jumps for hopping walls. Try Lakitu exploits. These are some of the easiest to find. Just keep falling off and boosting off the course in weird directions to test how and where Lakitu places you. You may find a massive shortcut! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Extremely Dangerous Glitch Information On Luigi's Mansion, there is a uber glitch where you carsh the game at the stairs. Do this online, and you get disconnected. But in a LAN match, Everyone who's playing finds their DSs crash! I shouldn't say that trick, as I would hate playing a sore loser who freezes your DS because they can't take a loss! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Waluigi Pinball glitch Extra information and related glitches The Waluigi Pinball glitch isn't just used to escape and fall through the level, a whole host of other things can happen: Land on invisible land You can land on invisible land if you fall out of the level just to the side. You land on some blue space! Shortcut If you fall enough towards the launceher, you get put down by Lakitu just before the launcher! Fall through the launcher If you go at another angle, you fall right through the flashing tunnel you shoot through at the start! Bounce off the bumpers If you land on a bumper, you bounce off the top right across the level! Launch upwards You can sometimes be launched up so high, you see out of the level! Inside the flipper If you land on the area next to the flipper, you fall through it and land on invisible ground inside the area! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hopping on a ramp makes you go faster. So does hopping on the loop/corskscrew in Rainbow Road. If you hold down on the control pad as you land from a ramp, you willl occasionaly do a wheelie. that. By the way, I've also heard you can boost far from the starting point on Rainbow Road and jump, landing on one of the boosters to save time. Try hopping on the loops though, after reading it at the Nsider forums, I always do it and it saves a ton of time! Also jump at the end of a loop to keep at boost speed for slightly longer. Be warned, if you mess up at the start of Waluigi Pinball, you go less far at the other side of the tunnel. If that happens, restart. -------------------------------------------------------------- Difficulty How Difficult each Course is to Master Figure Eight Circuit Difficulty- 1/10 Mastering- 5/10 Yoshi Falls Difficulty-2/10 Mastering-8/10 Cheep Cheep Beach difficulty-3/10 Mastering-6/10 Luigi's Mansion Difficulty-3/10 Mastering-7/10 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Prolonged rocket boosting You may have heard of this neat technique. Think of a higher tier version of snaking, and this is about it. To do this, you keep mini-turboing after the boost start to maintain it. You cut over any off-road surface without slowing down whatsoever. I can do this trick, and plan to use it. Mini-turboing after a zipper You can also do the technique after a boost pad. It's about the same as the nomal variant. Can you use a mushroom? No, that kills all prolonged rocket boost possibility. Until you go over a zipper. -------------------------------------------------------------- Lakitu Guide Why have you wrote a Lakitu guide? I have written this guide because there are many queries to how the game works and this guide should solve the mysteries and explain the unexplained phenomena in the game. This guide also gives you tips about faling off the edge and ways to use Lakitu exploits to dodge items. Section 1, Lakitu Exploits There are three main types of Lakitu exploits. The first are glitches, which are any use of Lakitu to cut a large portion of track as unintended shortcuts like in Sky Garden and Tick Tock Clock. These will be covered in the guide as well as videos. The second are malfunctions, where you can go the wrong way and get away with it, and go the right way and be told to turn around. The final type are Lakitu tricking exploits, where you half-complete shortcuts to be put down after it, or jump at a bend to cut the bend. Lakitu glitches Here are the known Lakitu GLITCHES: Sky Garden shortcut 3 Sky Garden shortcut 4 Rainbow Road shortcut 2 Rainbow Road shortcut 6 Rainbow Road shortcut 7 Tick Tock Clock shortcut 1 Tick Tock Clock shortcut 2 These can be done as follows: Sky Garden shortcut 3- Go to the bend in Sky Garden before the final vine bridge. Now aim towards the gap with the ramp in the distance, and boost, jumping at the last minute. You should be placed before the finish line. This does not work in Mario Kart Super Circuit. Sky Garden shortcut 4- Jump off the edge near the final vine bridge to be put down before the bridge. Rainbow Road shortcut 2- Jump off the edge near the slope after the jump and you should fly really far. If your aim was right, you will be placed by the corkscrew. Rainbow Road shortcut 6- Jump off like the last trick and you may be placed after the gap in the track. Rainbow Road shortcut 7- Jump like in the last two and you may be placed before the hairpin, perfect position to do the third shortcut. Tick Tock Clock shortcut 1- Jump off the track at the gears to be placed after the gears. Tick Tock Clock shortcut 2- Jump off the track near the pendulum to be placed on the next straightway. How these work: You trick the checkpoint system in the game into making it think you fell off at the target area, then the game will place you there. As it has recorrected it's location of you, the lap does not become invalidated. Lakitu Malfunctions These are glitches where you trick the game into thinking you are going the wrong way, or force it to allow you to go backwards slightly. This is because you trick the positioning systems in the game to think you are somewhere else in the level. These levels can be made to malfunction: Sky Garden Choco Island 2 Donut Plains 1 Luigi Circuit GBA Koopa Beach 2 How the positioning system likely works: Each part of the track is in one zone in the checkpoint system. If you cross an invisible line, the game knows you are in that area. Now in a place with sharp bends and close walls, sometimes the walls can cross that line. The game thinks you are the other side of the bend and will react accordingly. Strange exception In Sky Garden, the wall after the final bridge is really strange. If you are to the left of it, the game will either say: You are going backwards if you face upwards Or you are going forwards if you face downwards! This is strange because if you obey Lakitu, you commit suicide as the edge is where the game says you should be going! Lakitu tricking This is a technique where you half-complete a shortcut, and the game acts as if you are successful! It works on all ramp tricks! The reasoning behind this may be as follows: When you start the shortcut, you are in the normal checkpoint. But the checkpoint change doesn't happen at the end. It happens directly in the middle of each intentional shortcut, and once you cross a line, the game has calculated that you've made it, and acts accordingly! Why does this happen? This happens with checkpoints because of how the game would react without it. The game has been proven to work on a system on invisible checkpoints, which track your position on the map. This was implemented as a glitch counter measure, and an possible attempt to stop people cheating with game alteration devices. If these weren't in place, you could jump half the track and the lap would count, causing anarchy! Why is there a checkpoint in each intentional shortcut? Because without it, the game would no recalculate your position, and the lap would get invalidated by the game and it would act like you've done a glitch in the game! Bend tricking You just do the same as above with bends. If you pass a certain line, the game thinks you're the other side of the bend and puts you there when you die. Shortcuts and Lakitu in other games The reason that some of these tricks don't work in older games is because the prebuilt checkpoint system didn't use to be there in Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart Super Circuit. You could cut half the track and the lap would count. You could ruin Lakitu very easily. But Lakitu malfunctions weren't possible. When I tried the Sky Garden ones in Super Circuit, nothing happened. What Lakitu glitches worked in Super Circuit? Shortcuts 4 and 6 on Sky Garden worked in Super Circuit. Everything else failed. How do you get a boost when you are placed back on a cliff? Press A when you just land How do you boost start at the beginning of the race? Hold A til the last minute and let go at the last second works best. There are many different start boosts though. Have you got any other Lakitu info? Play Bowser Castle in vs. You will start in seventh, but go back to eighth as soon as he race starts! --------------------------------------------------------------- Checkpoint Lists Checkpoint lists for Sky Garden.
